PVB’s Mission
PV Basketball is a “not for profit” program sponsored by the PV PTO and welcomes any interested players with residence in Portola Valley attending grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Kindergarten and first grade clinics are coached by experienced coaches and second grade to 5th grade teams are coached by parent volunteers. PVB’s mission is to teach basketball fundamentals to each child in a positive and supportive environment and instill a passion and love for the game. It focuses on skill development and physical activity in the realm of the game of basketball. Skill development centers around each age groups’ level of gross motor skills and mental capacity.
Registration
Online registration begins October 6th and ends November 12th. Team Snap will host the online registration process as well as maintain all team activities, practices and games schedules. Register below.
Program Information
Former Stanford basketball star and current Priory Varsity Coach, David Moseley will continue to collaborate with PV Basketball to develop a program that will provide a foundation to support our players and coaches..
K-1st Grade Clinics
Clinics will be coached by professional coaches and focus on teaching players the fundamentals of the game in a supportive and instructive environment.
2nd Grade Clinics
Clinics will be coached by parent coaches and focus on teaching players the fundamentals of the game in a supportive and instructive environment. Inter squad scrimmages will focus on preparing players for the next level of competitive play.
3rd Grade and 4th-5th Grades
All competitive teams will be coached by parent coaches. All parent coaches or a team parent will be asked to attend one coaching clinic offered by David Moseley in November. Date and time TBD. The clinic will offer helpful coaching strategies, drills for practices and game planning for all age groups.
Parents who wish to be coaches can select their preferred practice days and times on the registration form. Once registration is complete and coaches are selected for each team, practice dates and times will be assigned. Preferences will be taken into consideration but are not guaranteed.
A maximum of two parent coaches will be allowed per each 3rd grade team and 4th-5th grade team. Two parent coaches can be selected at the beginning of the season and will be allowed to coach their own children but the remainder of the 3rd grade teams will be selected by the Ormondale PE staff while the remainder of the 4th-5th grade teams will be selected by Dan Flahavan and Kate Cox. The goal will be to create relatively balanced, competitive teams.
Since this program is sponsored by the PTO, PV Basketball strongly feels that the input of the school's staff is important, as they work with the students throughout the year in a wide range of activities. This is a community based program and with the support of the schools, parents and players, we hope that PV Basketball becomes “a feeder program” for the 6th-8th grade Corte Madera After School Basketball program.
Practices
Pre-season practice will begin for teams playing Saturday games (3rd grade boys and girls, 4th-5th grade boys and girls) the week of November 30th and runs until December 18th. These clinics are coached by professional coaches. No practices will be held during holidays or winter break. Practices will recommence the week of January 4th, 2016. Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade programs will begin practice the week of January 9th, 2017. Practice times and schedules will be forwarded soon after the registration process has been completed.
Games
Each competitive team will play games on Saturdays against other PVB and Woodside Elementary teams. Games will begin on January 14th, 2017 and will be played at Ormondale, Corte Madera and Woodside Elementary. Game schedules will be forwarded soon after the registration process has been completed.
